Eligible South Dakota healthcare providers have until 6 p.m. CST Monday, Dec. 13, to apply for additional COVID funding from the state.

The COVID-19 Targeted Healthcare Grants application process opened Dec. 2. South Dakota is allocating an estimated $15,000,000 for the program.

Recipients will include:

  • Nursing homes
  • Skilled nursing facilities
  • Intermediate care facilities
  • Senior meals
  • Residential youth care

To be eligible, a healthcare provider must:

  • Be licensed or otherwise authorized by the state to provide services in South Dakota;
  • Be located in South Dakota; and
  • Provide services in areas of the state that may be underserved or to those who are uninsured or vulnerable populations (i.e., elderly, disabled, children, persons with mental illness) or
  • Provide services funded by the state through Medicaid or other federal/state funding through the Department of Corrections, Department of Social Services, or Department of Human Services.

Providers of multiple service types can receive an award for all licensed beds and a percentage of state revenue on all service categories.

After the state awards the amounts, those receiving grants will get a Beneficiary Agreement. That agreement must be electronically signed and uploaded to the application website by 6 p.m. CST Wednesday, Dec. 15.

Nursing homes, skilled nursing facilities, intermediate care facilities that get the funding will receive a per-licensed bed payment estimated at $1,200. Senior meals and residential youth care programs awarded funding will receive 19% of the annual state revenue they’ve paid.
