Meet the Team | Nancy Barnes

Join us in welcoming one of our newest team members at Casey Peterson, LTD, Nancy Barnes. She joined us the first part of April as a senior associate on our Nonprofit and Government team.

So far, Nancy is enjoying the ability to work remotely, the flexibility in scheduling, and the encouraging atmosphere she’s encountered while at our firm.

Nancy has been a CPA since 1996. She has a wide range of experience, including payroll, trial balance preparation for tax returns, cash management/general ledger accounting for private for-profit corporate offices, public university accounting, and nonprofit foundation accounting. She’s also a member of the Association of Governmental Accountants

But Nancy didn’t start in accounting. She has an advanced degree in wildlife biology but ended up at a job in the business office of a small hospital. There, she was encouraged to take an accounting class.

At the end of the semester, the instructor suggested that she continue taking courses. The instructor then set a program for Nancy to get the courses she needed to be eligible to sit for the CPA exam without having to get an accounting degree. Nancy sat for the exam and passed all four parts on the first try.

In her free time when the weather permits, Nancy enjoys hiking. She also likes jigsaw puzzles (something she picked up from her mother), playing the piano, and hanging out with her family.
