How South Dakota’s New Minimum Wage Will Affect Your Payroll

10/20/2021 Tags: Announcements, In the News

The state of South Dakota’s minimum wage will increase to $9.95 an hour starting Jan. 1, 2022.

So, for payroll purposes, if your employees have hours they work in 2021 but don't receive payment for until 2022, which rate should you use?

The new minimum wage doesn’t apply to hours your employees worked in 2021, even if you issued the payroll check for those hours after Jan. 1, 2022.

The hourly minimum wage for tipped employees will increase to $4.975 an hour starting Jan 1. There are certain other exemptions, which you can see here.
