Update: Your need-to-knows about the most recent QuickBooks Desktop changes

Intuit making changes to the kinds of new QuickBooks Desktop subscriptions it offers.

Note: The following information has been updated as of July 31, 2024, in light of Intuit extending it’s subscription change deadline to Sept. 30.

Intuit will no longer sell new subscriptions to the list of products below after Sept. 30, 2024:

  • QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus
  • QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus
  • QuickBooks Desktop Mac Plus
  • QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll

Existing subscribers won’t be affected. Current QuickBooks Desktop Plus and Desktop Payroll subscribers can continue to renew their subscriptions after the September deadline, and Intuit will still provide security updates, product updates, and support for existing subscribers. The change also doesn’t affect QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise products.

You can see full details and FAQs on Intuit’s website here.

Previous update

Here’s a summary of the recent tweaks:

If you’re currently subscribed to Basic or Standard payroll, Intuit will move you into the QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll subscription on your renewal date. However, you’ll need to consent to the change before your subscription renewal date. If you don’t, your payroll service will end, and you’ll have to contact Intuit to set up a new subscription and to link your previous payroll history.

This change has been in effect for a few months but will affect more people in the next month or so. Intuit has been notifying clients of this change through QB Desktop and email.

  • QB Desktop Subscription changes
    • If you have a non-subscription QB file and don’t want to lose support and updates, you’ll need to purchase a subscription for your current Desktop program by July 31, 2024. If you don’t, the only subscription available after that date will be QB Desktop Enterprise.
    • If you have a subscription but cancel it or don’t renew it, you won’t be able to create or edit transactions after canceling or not renewing the subscription. You’ll only be able to access the QB file in view-only mode for one year.
